This week's microfiction is a 70-word story about a mighty warrior.
Many of my micro stories are inspired by prompts provided by THE FICTION DEALER Substack. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re interested in reading more microfics — or writing your own!
G'roth the Mighty
G’roth the Mighty was sick of the grind. Every day, a new monster to fight, a new beast to tame, a new woman to bed.
“Tomorrow,” he promised himself, “will be a day of rest.”
But the next morning, the queen’s favored knight came to call. “Your help is needed, O Mighty G’roth. Our queen has been stolen by a—”
“Sorry, it’s my lazy day,” G'roth said, shutting the door.

Kev The Mildly Helpful thought he’d pop round to say hi 👋
Kev the Mildly Helpful knocked gently on G’roth’s door, a tin of slightly stale biscuits under one arm.
“I heard you’re on a lazy day,” he said when G’roth answered in a bearskin robe, holding a turkey leg.
G’roth grunted. “And?”
Kev offered a biscuit. “Thought I’d help you not help anyone. Got tea, too.”
Together, they lounged. G’roth napped. Kev hummed. A monster roared in the distance. Neither moved.
“Thanks,” G’roth muttered.
Kev smiled. “Mildly helpful… even at rest.”
